Inspiration.

I found this hankie at an estate sale several years ago and it has always been a favorite. Isn't it funny how the eye is in the wrong place on all the dogs on the border? Ha Ha. I've thought of framing it, but haven't gotten around to it.
Now that I have a grandson, when I look at it, I have ideas for all kinds of projects.
When he turned one last month, I decided to make him a little backpack to carry his stuff in when they go on outings. (I really don't expect him to wear it on his back, not for a while anyway.) I used the cock-eyed border dogs as a guide for my design for embroidery on the pocket.

I had a lot of fun making it and of course, learned a few things along the way. I couldn't find a pattern for a small backpack, so I took apart a plastic Dr. Seuss backpack I found at the Goodwill and was able to recycle a zipper I had that had a cool zipper-pull.
Sorry, but I didn't get a picture of the finished product. I better make another one before I forget what I learned!

Aww, I want to see the finished backpack. Don't be surprised if he wants to carry it himself. My 2yo fights me for mine.

Such a darling idea... and isn't it funny where inspiration comes from. Sometimes it's a hankie, sometimes it's a scratched up tray, sometimes... sometimes we don't know where the ideas come from -- so long as they come. I'm thinking my wee grandson needs his own backpack too.
